NPMC-OC3 Overview The NPMC-OC3 is a telecommunication/networking interface board in PMC (PCI mezzanine card) form factor. The module provides a highly scalable solution to telecom/networking applications with the requirement of cost-effective OC-3 access. The module is dedicated to networking systems requiring optical OC3/STM1, or SDH/SONET, or in ATM applications. Hardware The NPMC-OC3 is a P1386.1/Draft 2.4a compatible PMC module that can be plugged onto any VME, cPCI, or other carrier board offering a PMC extension slot. Using the National Semiconductor PC87200 PCI bridge, the NPMC-OC3 is PCI Rev. 2.2 compatible (32bit/33MHz). The UTOPIA-II / POS-PHY-II interface on the PMC I/O connector P14 is connected to the PMC Sierra 155Mbps PM5384 (S/UNI 1x155MBit) ATM/OC3 PHY. The PHY then connects to an optical link through an optical SC/LC duplex transceiver on the front panel. The PM5384 can be operated in ATM, SDH/SONET or PoS mode. The 100 Mbps Ethernet MII interface on the I/O connector P14 is connected to a 100BaseT interface through the Intel LXT972 frame device. Plugged onto the N.A.T. CompactPCI telecom infrastructure platform NVTP-1000, the NPMC-OC3 provides an intelligent connection to OC3-based networks used in applications requiring QoS (Quality of Service) such as IP switching, routing and Internet connections. |
